Show + Tell: Amanda + Violet

What I did this summer by Amanda from Loop and Lil

The summer I finally finished up a project I'd been working on for several months:

And it came out perfectly:

This summer, we welcomed our first child, Violet Louise, to our family. I've taken a little break from cutting fabric and sewing in favor of swaddling and burping (her). So my Etsy shop is a little sparse for now, but will be restocked just as soon as I can get a full night's sleep!

Do check out some of the goodies still in Loop and Lil's Etsy shop, like this a-freaking-dorable screen printed Hat Tee.

Show and Tell: Margaret and Dakota

Meet Margaret, the official cutie pie behind Three Yellow Starfish, who makes adorable clothing for kids and baby. She says she was freakishly swamped with online orders this summer, but she did have a few chances to take a break and have some fun. Let's see what she did this summer.

Margaret at the Dustbowl Arts Market in Norman, Oklahoma.

Margaret's handy helper was there too!

Margaret debuted her adorable new knot dresses this summer.

She's really good at mixing fabrics and colors! This is one reason why we heart her.

Three Yellow Starfish also presented her amazing items at the White Rock Local Market, and will be at the Jingle Bash November 20th! So for all of you looking to give those little ones in your life cute little gifts, find Margaret and check out her wares.

As a nice break Margaret and her friends enjoyed some yummy
Polish dishes at For You Cafe in Plano.

Dakota, Margaret's son, Dakota was also the ring bearer at her brother-in-law's wedding.

Handsome!

And our Austin friends

Category Spotlight: Accessories

I love a great accessory! It can make an old sweater feel a little prettier, hide a bad hair day, and put some bling just about anywhere. A great accessory is something that can express something unique about you, or be a fun way to try a little bit of fad and fashion. Etsy Dallas is full of amazing artisans of almost any kind of accessory you can think of, and a few you probably couldn't even imagine. Check out these great Etsy Dallas members who fall in our Accessories category!

This yummy knit scarf by Karmacrochet is definitely on my list for fall.

These clips by LaAlicia are wonderful! I love upcycled items that are smart and adorable.

How about an accessory that can keep you warm AND make you look great? I'm in love with these ruffles by ModestAmbition.

What girl doesn't love a flower in her hair? I'm smitten with these adorable clips from SillaSoup.

I love adding some punch & personality with feather fascinators by Tara to the T.

I love a great owl! How about this adorable little pendant from Superchica?

With so many great options for accessories made by the members of Etsy Dallas, there are endless ways to express yourself fashionably!

Show and Tell: Brodie and David

Since school has kicked back in and summer is changing into fall (well for at least this week), we over here at Etsy Dallas thought it would be fun to do a little Show + Tell about our summers. So everyone gather around and sit in a circle on the floor and let's see to what Brodie and David did during their summers.

Meet Brodie (below). Brodie is the feline friend of talented Etsy Dallas member, Jingle Bash artist and illustrator Chet Phillips. This summer Brodie kept a diary of his wild summer adventures.

What I did on my summer vacation by Brodie Phillips a.k.a. ChetArt mascot

June:

Despite warmish temperatures, I was indeed capable of a healthy dose of outdoor naps throughout June, replete in my owner-fashioned swing with pillow accessory. Neighborhood dogs kept barking to a minimum and my sister, Lily, gratefully kept her distance.

July:

Summer heat persists, requiring inventive nap techniques. The monkey grass provides a small amount of relief and the appropriate privacy needed to escape Lily's constant demands. I'm sure it will grow back properly with time. Ignorant neighborhood dogs continue to bark at cicadas, to little effect in calming their maddening cellophane drone.

August:

With continuous temperatures in the triple digits and a heat index that would melt paint off the side of the house, I grudgingly retreat to the cooler environment of the house. My attempts to sleep are continually interrupted by Lily's requests to play the games "name that bird" and "what's that squirrel doing now?"

What I did this summer with David of Ferrochie

David, the master designer of wood, used his weapons of choice this summer to create an oversized collection of chess pieces for his shop. We hear the Bishop is still a work in progress, but with all that detail on the Knight, we don't blame him.

You can find the Pawn in the Ferrochie Etsy shop, and see them in person and meet David at the Jingle Bash on November 20th at the Palladium in Dallas,TX.

Weekend Guide: Sept 4-5

Our sister team, Etsy Fort Worth, is putting on their first show this weekend and many of our talented Etsy Dallas members will be selling there goodies. Be sure to stop by and say hello, partake in handmade shopping and enjoy some live music, raffles, free goody bags and so much more!

Back-to-School

I love this time of year. There is something so special about the smell of new pencils, backpacks, and the great memories of picking out new great stuff for school. While I don't have to wait in the drop off/pick up lines or shop for supplies myself, I definitely take every opportunity to shop. It's a great time to find new cool stuff, fun supplies, and great deals.

Etsy would have been my favorite place (if it had been around) to pick up new gear. I can not tell you the number of lip balm's I'd lose at the bottom of my backpack along with my keys-- I love this solution by Karmacrochet.

Could you get a more perfect bag for back-to-school? Check out this great messenger bag by Cut out and Collect

The answer to a personalized bookcover- for your laptop. These vinyl decals sized perfectly for a laptop by One Up Designs are great! Who could resist a chimp?

Checkout this bookcover by Nerdbomber that is the perfect size for paperbacks! My high school self could have really used this, in fact if my copy of "Old Man and the Sea" would weep if it saw that it could have remained in-tact. ;)

All I can think when shopping Alicia Colina-Ashby is that I really wish she could have been a buddy of mine when trying to pass a note ;). I'm in love with the intricate folds and amazing accessories-- like this pouch (which would definitely be great for all the little bits that float around a book bag)

Who doesn't want to look great the first day of school (and really all the days). These earrings from superchica are super sweet.

This necklace by Haute Hardware would perk up any outfit with a great pop of color

Definitely check out all of Etsy Dallas for great back to school items. From shirts, accessories, to paper goods, personal care, and more I think you could find a little something beautiful and original just in time for back-to-school. Happy Shopping!

Hmm...What to do with Stale Bread?

Dearest readers - My how our blog has gotten stale! It's like that piece of Wonder bread at the back of your pantry that everyone forgot about.... Our only excuse is that we have been up to our eyeballs in Jingle Bash applications, planning, etc. etc. (This show is going to ROCK!) So, with our focus back on our blog, I thought it'd be fun to ask my fellow teamies: What do you do with stale bread? Here's what they said:

"We use stale bread to make bread crumbs. And in Poland, we give it to babies who are teething. Under strict parental supervision of course!"

Maggie, maggie may i
"Watch my husband eat it. Seriously, that man will eat anything! He says as long as it smells good it's okay. And apparently stale bread does not smell bad. Neither did the sour cream that was way past its expiration date. And yes, I know the fastest way to get to the hospital just in case."

Alicia, La Alicia
"My fave thing to do with stale bread is feed it to the birds and ducks while I watch them."

Silla, silla soup
"Whiskey sauce bread pudding. Dunno what we're eating for dinner tonight, but I gots me an idea for dessert!" CLICK HERE FOR RECIPE

And my answer:
"Why not use it in drywall? Go green! (Right? No?)"

Category Spotlight: Edibles, Pets + Pottery

What do edibles, pets and pottery all have in common? A select few of Etsy Dallas' members make some awesome products in these categories, and you don't want to miss them!

Etsy Dallas has one lone member in the Pets category, but you won't be disappointed. Oh So Micro is oh-so-macro in style! As a cat owner, I've never considered clothing for my furry friends, not wanting to end up with bandages all over myself. But Emalie's cute outfits might just make me rethink the issue. Oh So Micro has über cute outfits for small dogs. There are so many, I can't focus on just a few. Oh so adorable!

On to the Etsy Dallas Edibles - but it's really more like drinkables! Downtown Roasters is run by Thomas Horton straight out of his coffee shop in Arlington (Coffeehaus Downtown). Now I'm not a coffee drinker myself (I know, call me weird), but I do love the smell. I have had a mean cup of tea at the Coffeehaus, so I'm going to call myself a semi-expert on the subject. Fair trade coffee beans roasted by hand = what's not to love? Choose from Colombian Dark Roast, Papua New Guinea, Caramel Creme, Dark Maple, Italian Roast, and more...smells great to me!

Now let's visit the pottery section of Etsy Dallas starring two talented potters! First up is Both Hands Studio by Lynn Wilkes Armstrong. I love this little mirror! It brings grandma's crochet doily into the modern era. The combination of the texture of the crochet pressed into the clay is perfect in my book, and lends a friendly note to both modern and traditional homes. And this vase by Both Hands Studio is so unusual, it stands alone. You won't even want to put flowers in it!

The other talented pottery member on our team, Jill Whitfield of Rimrock View Studio, makes clay items with a fresh look. I just love this cute little leaf pendant, and Jill's Ikebana vase is so unusual and lovely.

I hope you enjoyed this "tour" of Etsy Dallas members in the Edibles, Pets and Pottery categories! Check out our other talented members HERE.
